Last week, I was able to visit our schools in Gary, Indiana. While there, our high school cheerleaders were practicing and the coach called me over to meet some of the young ladies. The coach wanted to inform me that several of our cheerleaders have already earned 30 college credits. Each of the young ladies in the picture above have earned at least 15 college credits. How about that? That’s reason enough to cheer right there.
Meanwhile, across town, at one of our other schools, Gary Middle College West, I had to review tragedy. It seems that our school was broken into not once, but three times over the Labor Day weekend. Thieves stole 124 laptops from the school. Each time we boarded up the damaged doors and windows, and after the police left the scene, the thieves returned for more.
As tragic as this is, it demonstrates the need for our schools more than ever. The thieves are desperate. Our school seeks to provide a good education to all and to reduce the need for desperate acts such as what occurred to us last week. It’s a long process and long journey but we will persevere. It’s the right thing to do.
Police released this photo of one of the suspects who stole 124 laptops from our school over Labor Day weekend. Thieves dragged our locked laptop carts out into the parking lot to bust them open and get the laptops.
Let’s keep changing the world together!
