Dear Friends:
Louisiana released state test score results in July and we’ve finally digested the data. I’m proud to share that both GEO Academies performed well in Baton Rouge, too. GEO Prep Academy came in third best among charters in performance and GEO Prep Mid City came in second best in growth among charters. One might argue GEO Prep was number two in performance if you adjust for demographics but we won’t quibble. There are 16 charters in Baton Rouge. Not bad.
Apparently families are very happy with both schools as both are enrolled at capacity and have waiting lists. Next week, we will welcome more than 1,400 students in grades K-8 to each school and our new high school, GEO Next Generation High School, which had a goal to enroll 100 9th graders will welcome a class of 103 9th graders (maybe more), many of whom spent their summer taking their first college classes at Baton Rouge Community College. Governor John Bel Edwards stopped by last month to visit with the students, too (see picture above).
Altogether, we will be serving more than 1,500 students in Baton Rouge starting next week. Wow!
To put this in perspective, we started in 2015 with one school and 150 students in grades K-3. Now we will have three schools and 1,500 students. Wow!
Yes, it’s fun changing the world together!
Sincerely,
Kevin Teasley
