As we remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today for all the great things he did and stood for while on this earth, let us not forget that in 1944, at age 15 and as a junior in high school, he passed the entrance test and enrolled in Morehouse College. He earned a full bachelor’s degree from Morehouse by the time he was 19.
We remember Dr. King every day at all our schools. Many of our students enter college as early as their 9th grade year. Many graduate with full career certifications, associate degrees, and some earn a full bachelor’s too. Momentum is growing and many more will follow.
It is my hope that what Dr. King accomplished by the age of 19 in 1948 will become more common in our schools and schools across the country in the near future. This will be a great way to honor Dr. King and to carry on his legacy.
