Our Schools

GEO Academies is a network of seven charter schools in Gary, Indianapolis, Indiana and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, serving 3,500 predominantly African-American and low-income students. GEO believes that all children should have access to a quality education that includes college and that education can “Beat Poverty.”

To actualize these beliefs, GEO has systematically built a student-centered, content-rich K-12 education model that provides a personalized and competency-based approach to learning necessary to close achievement gaps beginning in elementary schools, ensuring middle school students are on at least high school grade level by the summer before 9th grade, and ultimately preparing low-income students to begin college coursework on college campuses as early as 9th grade. By providing an accelerated pathway to college, beginning in kindergarten, GEO schools hope to break the cycle of poverty that is prevalent in the families and communities of the students we serve.

Gary Middle College (GMC) has two locations – East and West. Both schools are tuition-free, public charter schools that serve students in grades 9-12. GMC is a different kind of school; we seek to meet the needs of students who have experienced the kinds of challenges in their life that make earning a high school diploma in a traditional setting difficult. At GMC, we provide students, regardless of life circumstances or previous academic struggle, an evening high school program that is rigorous, individualized and supportive. Through our partnership with Ivy Tech Community College GMC students will be able to take dual credit courses with the opportunity to earn college credit; all at no cost to the student. Students who attend GMC will graduate with a Core-40 High School diploma and up to 60 college credits and their associate’s degree.
